Programs

YFU Estonia offers both a standard academic year program and also four special programs: nature, music, art and film. Semester programs are more rare, but can be available in some cases. All programs are open for students between the ages of 15 - 18.

All programs have the same basic structure with different compulsory program events. There are some optional events that students can take part in at the cost of an additional fee. You may find the description of our program year here.

All students are obligated to attend local schools. Getting grades is not important, but it is highly recommended if the studentĀ“s language skills allow it. The Estonian school year begins on the 1st of September and ends in the first week of June. More information about the Estonian school system can be found here.

As a rule students also live with a host family. Host families may live in the countryside or in bigger cities like Tallinn or Tartu, but know that in Estonia big means 100 000 - 300 000 inhabitants and a small place may mean that you live in a village where there are less than 100 people. All families are different as are all the students so it is a new story each time. Some of the student/family stories are available for you to read here.
